During the first quarter, Round Rock-based Dell lost that spot to California-basedc HP for the first time since 2001. The turnabout happened because Dell’s U.S. shipmentzs decreased 16 percentwhild HP’s increased 11 percent during the quarter, industry researcnh firms reported. Dell’s slow retail store sales combined witha recession-induced slowdown in saless to business customers contributed to the rankingf change. Also, Dell has been slowefr out of the gate with the verypopular low-pricesd netbooks, while competitors HP (NYSE: HPQ) and Acer sell huge quantitiee of them, said Mikako Kitagawa, principa l analyst for Gartner Inc.
