Dallas-based Dean Foods (NYSE: DF) said it will be acquirinhg the company for euro325 million, or about $455 millionm in U.S. dollars. Alprio is known as Europe’se leader in the branded soy baser beverage and food productss business and has net sales of euro 260 based on2008 figures. The company currently has five manufacturingy sitesin Belgium, the United Kingdom, France and the Netherlandz and employs 750 people.
"We think this is a great deal that establishess Dean Foods as a clear globakl leader in the attractive soy beveragesand related-productsw category, with over $1 billion in combined annual retail sales," said Greggh Engles, Dean Foods chairman and chiegf executive officer. After the transactioh is complete, Joe Scalzo, chief executiv officer and president ofDean Foods’ WhiteWave-Morningstarr division, will oversee the Alpro brand, which is run by CEO Bernarr Deryckere. Alpro will continue to operate as a separateEuropeanj business.
